Determining the right type of surface pump or submersible pump for your customers’ application will depend on many factors. To get started in selecting the right pump, ask yourself these questions:

 

Do I need a submersible pump?

•  For a 4” water well? A 6”, 8”, or 10” water well?
•  For wastewater: effluent, grinder, non-clog, sewage?

 

Do I need a surface pump?

• Will it be protected or in the weather or a dirty environment? Is an ODP or TEFC motor a better choice?
• Will you need a vertical pump with a smaller footprint, or will a shorter, horizontal pump fit the space better?
• Will it run continuously or intermittently?
• What type of fluid is being pumped?

 

What is the total dynamic head (feet) I will need? You will need to consider:

•  Total elevation
•  Pressure at the discharge point
•  Piping Losses
•  Specific gravity

 

How many gallons per minute will be required?

 

What power supply is available?

• Do you have single phase or three phase available?
• Is the power supply 60 hz or 50 hz?
• What voltage is available at the location?
